The mission of Sandburg PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. We collaborate with the school to encourage students to become confident, independent, responsible and respectful learners.

Sandburg PTA Executive Board Volunteers Need
The Sandburg PTA is looking for individuals to serve on the Executive Board for next school year. The open positions include: President, President Elect and Co-Secretary. The President and President Elect positions could serve as co-Presidents (grab a friend and serve on the Board together!). The Co-Secretary role oversees the PTA website and is responsible for taking notes at the 4 PTA meetings. Please consider volunteering for the Exec Board. Spartan Store Need Volunteers
Spartan Store is open! Please consider signing up for a shift. Please signup here to volunteer!

7th + 8th Grade Volleyball
The Sandburg Volleyball season starts VERY SOON.  Anyone trying out MUST have a CURRENT PHYSICAL on file with the school nurse.  Physicals can be dropped off to the office or emailed to the nurse.
Go to the appropriate volleyball webpage and fill out the Google Form before tryouts too!
Tryout dates are as follows:
Girls
Thursday, January 30: 3:30-5:00
Monday, February 3: 3:30-5:00

Boys
Friday, January 31: 3:30-5:00
Tuesday, February 4: 3:30-5:00

3rd Annual Career Day Speaker Series Program January 24th - Volunteers Needed
This Friday (1/24), Sandburg PTA will kick-off the 3rd Annual Career Day Speaker Series Program. A significant change this year will be BOTH 7th and 8th graders exploring career paths and opportunities. 
In following with previous years program, the IL CIS Juniors Career Clusters will be leveraged to curate speakers to present to students from these two grades, the speakers career paths and align professions/vocations to with the academic pathways of high school (York). Volunteer speakers present for 30 mins each month; past speakers include a CEO, small business owners, a former FBI agent, and a managing partner in transportation/logistics.

Your help is needed in the following ways:
- Two (2) volunteer speakers are sought in the areas of Hospitality & Tourism and Manufacturing (one each). 
- Two (2) volunteer facilitators are needed help "MC" monthly speakers.
- Families and businesses sponsorships are still available to help support the PTA and this 5-month long speaker program. 
If you are interested in helping in one or all three, please let Tony Chan know.

You are cordially invited to join Foundation 205 as we celebrate our annual gala Showcase 2025: Bright Futures!  Happening on Saturday, February 1 at Medinah Country Club, the event will feature musical entertainment, a thrilling live auction, three course meal, and fun surprises!  This year we're featuring three awesome raffles, including 3 cash prizes, pizza beer and ice cream for a year, and a Bulls courtside VIP experience.

Summer Rec Open House

SUMMER RECREATION OPEN HOUSE
District 205 PTA is proud to host the 23rd Annual Summer Recreation Open House on the evening of Wednesday, February 5th, 2025 from 6-8pm at York High School in the Commons! The goal of this event is to give parents the opportunity to "one-stop-shop” for summer recreational and educational programs that families can attend, work or volunteer. Programs present at this event are for children of all ages (pre-K through High School) and abilities. This open house is provided at no charge to parents and families. For our community organizations, this is an excellent opportunity to showcase your 2025 summer programs! We hope to see you there!

Join us for a night of bright lights, glow sticks, and non-stop dancing! Dress up in your best neon and let’s light up the night!

REACH Parent Group 
The REACH Rubric for the 2025-26 school year is posted on the D205 REACH website - identification & appeals.
1/8-24/25 - Winter NWEA MAP Growth testing will take place in D205. Exact dates for each school/class within this window will be determined by school leaders at the building level. For more information on MAP Growth testing, see the District's assessment webpage and/or contact your student's homeroom teacher.
Many thanks to our speakers at our December 2024 RPG Meeting: "Academic Transitions - Middle School-to-High School." Our student panel of York sophomores and freshmen (Alex Padgett, Anders Dochoff, Michael Ahern, Evelyn Reedy, and Emily Jensen) offered insight into the transition from MS to HS academics: York resources, common pitfalls, time management, rising freshman course selection, etc. Special thanks to York Assistant Principal for Instruction-Adam Roubitchek, Ed.D, and Jen Zacharias-RPG Parent & Executive Functioning Expert from Beyond the Classroom. To view the speaker presentations, see our 2024 December 4 REACH PG Meeting Minutes

Purchase 2024-2025 Yearbooks
It is time to order your 24-25 Sandburg Yearbook! Yearbooks are $18.01. Do it now, so you aren't left wondering if you did it or not!! If you would like your student(s) to receive a yearbook at the end of the year, make sure to purchase one today!

Sandburg PTA Reimbursement
Please allow up to 10-14 days for reimbursement; all fields must be filled out for a timely reimbursement. If a receipt or invoice file is not available, please forward information regarding the reimbursement to ElmhurstSandburgPTA@gmail.com. Only one expense request per form should be submitted.
